Your egg is on the move.
Your baby's development
Your body is still getting ready for pregnancy.
At second week of pregnancy, there's no baby yet, but your egg is awaiting fertilization in your fallopian tube, and your body is preparing for conception. How can you be two weeks pregnant before your baby is conceived? There's an easy explanation.
Even while you're menstruating, your body is getting ready for pregnancy.
Even while you're menstruating, your body is getting ready for pregnancy.
- An egg, maturing within one of your ovaries, releases.
- This process, called ovulation, usually occurs approximately 11 to 14 days after your period.
- After ovulation, the egg moves into one of your fallopian tubes, which connects your ovaries and uterus, and waits to be fertilized.
- If you have intercourse during ovulation, you might become pregnant.
- Sperm can live in your body for up to six days, but your egg, once released during ovulation, must be fertilized within 12 to 24 hours.
- At this point, your egg is 0.01 cm — too small to see with the naked eye.
Your nutrition and health
Start choosing the right foods.
Growing a baby from a single cell into a healthy newborn is hard work. It draws tremendous energy, nutrients, and resources from your body. A healthy diet is important for all of this growth and development.

Pregnancy at 2 weeks:
- Eat a balanced choice of foods (including nutrient-rich foods containing protein, fat, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals).
- Try to eat foods in the proper proportions. You can try to mentally divide your plate in half: Vegetables and fruits should make up one half, with proteins (like meat , fish or eggs ) and grains on the other. Consume fat, sugar, and salt in moderation.
Things to think about now
You’re building a baby, one meal at a time.
From the moment of conception, your diet provides the building blocks of good nutrition. Every organ and cell in that little being is on its own schedule, so you should eat healthy, nutritious meals before and throughout your pregnancy.
What happens next week?
Fertilization, division, repetition, and implantation.
A single-cell zygote forms, divides, and doubles every 12 hours as it heads toward your uterus.
